The Kingdom’s airports recorded a volume of commercial passenger traffic of 2,473,988 passengers during the first half of 2021, against 11,669,548 passengers during the same period of 2019, a decrease of around 78, 8%, according to the National Airports Office (ONDA).
Mohammed V airport, which represents half of the overall passenger traffic, thus recorded from January to June 2021, a decrease of 73.48% compared to the same period of 2019, that is to say 1,238,912 passengers against 4,670,924 passengers. hosted during S1-2019, specifies ONDA in a press release. During the period from Tuesday June 15, 2021 (1st day of resumption of flights) until Wednesday June 30, 2021, Moroccan airports welcomed 476,542 passengers through 4,704 flights (International Arrival and Departure), the same source said, adding that this traffic represents 45% of the international passenger traffic received during the same period of 2019.
In addition, ONDA indicates that domestic air traffic, with 652,147 passengers welcomed during the first half of 2021, recorded a decline of around 53.68% compared to the same period in 2019.
Down 82.25% compared to H1-2019, international air traffic, which represents almost 74% of global traffic, recorded 1,821,841 passengers.
This lower result concerns all markets, in particular that of Europe which represents more than 72% of global air traffic, with a regression of 83.88% compared to the same period of 2019.
During the first half of 2021, there were 30,091 airport movements, down -69.54% compared to the same period in 2019. The share of Mohammed V airport is 49.94% of this traffic, Tangier Ibn Battouta (9.64%) and Marrakech Menara (9.09%).
Air freight recorded during the first half of 2021 a reduction of -27.64% compared to the same period of 2019. It stood at 35,236.72 tons against 48,696.31 tons in the first half of 2019.
