The Premier League announced on Wednesday that former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has been chosen to join the Hall of Fame.

Three times champion of England with the London club, Lampard, former captain of the Blues and more recently their coach, is the most prolific midfielder in the history of the Premier League with 177 goals under the shirts of West Ham, Chelsea and Manchester City.

He is the 5th player designated among the eight footballers who will enter the recently created Hall of Fame first.

Before him, the former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer and the French Thierry Henry, who had made the heyday of Arsenal, had been chosen by a jury.

A list of 23 players was then put to the vote of Internet users who were to retain six.

Former Manchester United striker Eric Cantona and his midfielder Roy Keane were elected on Tuesday.

Three other names will be announced in the coming days, specifies the Premier League.
