Sadly famous for the many crimes he committed against young girls between 1987 and 2003, Michel Fourniret died on Monday at the age of 79. He had been hospitalized in serious condition since April 28.

The serial killer died at the Pitié-Salpétrière Hospital in Paris, Paris prosecutor Rémy Heitz told AFP. He was 79 years old. Sentenced twice to life imprisonment for the murders of eight young women and adolescent girls, he was also prosecuted for several other crimes, including the disappearance of Estelle Mouzin.

He had been hospitalized since April 28 at the Interregional Secure Hospital Unit (UHSI) of this Parisian hospital, dependent on the Fresnes penitentiary center, where he was serving two life sentences for the murders of eight people. “An investigation was opened to find the causes of his death,” said the prosecutor.
