Argan tree: The UN confirms the Royal vision for the enhancement of this heritage (Omar Hilale)

United Nations (New York) – By proclaiming May 10 of each year, International Argan Day, the United Nations reinforces the vision of HM King Mohammed VI in favor of the conservation and enhancement of a national heritage and universal, indicated the Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Morocco to the UN, Omar Hilale.

Speaking at the high-level event initiated Monday by Morocco and the United Nations, Mr. Hilale said that this proclamation by the United Nations is also a recognition of the leadership of the Sovereign to promote the regional version of the Morocco plan green, develop agricultural production, fight against poverty in rural areas, enhance agricultural wealth and guarantee food security in the Kingdom.
“This Day is an invitation to celebrate this mythical tree and to make its culture a sustainable socio-economic lever. We want it to be a catalyst for international cooperation, in order to support the socio-economic fabrics of argan, rural women entrepreneurs, cooperatives, civil society, scientists and local producers to innovate and strengthen the chains of value of the Argan tree ”, further noted the diplomat.
And to recall that the resolution of Morocco adopted, by consensus, by the General Assembly of the United Nations on March 3, 2021, is the expression of the mobilization of the international community for the safeguard and the development of this heritage of humanity in order to to strengthen its socio-economic impact and its ecological, human, cultural, culinary and medicinal virtues.
The Ambassador highlighted the efforts made in this direction by the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, and the extraordinary mobilization of national actors, as well as the United Nations and of its various agencies, so that this celebration meets the objectives and expectations in the direction of the preservation and enhancement of the Argan tree.
The opening ceremony of this high-level event was chaired by the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, Aziz Akhannouch.
Organized in a hybrid format, this event is followed around the world, live on United Nations web TV, as well as on YouTube and on social networks.
