Exports climb nearly 39% in Q1-2021

Automotive sector exports reached more than 22.6 billion dirhams (billion dirhams) for the first quarter of 2021, up 38.9% compared to the end of March 2020, according to the Foreign Exchange Office.

This development is mainly explained by the increase in sales of the construction segment (51.9%) and those of the cabling segment (23.4%), specifies the Office in its bulletin on foreign trade indicators. March 2021.

In addition, the bulletin shows that exports of phosphates and derivatives increased by 21.7% to 13.4 billion dirhams, mainly due to the increase in sales of phosphoric acid (+1.5 billion dirhams) and those of fertilizers. natural and chemical products of 879 million dirhams (MDH).

Sales in the electronics and electricity sector posted growth of 21.5%. However, the increase in exports was moderated by the fall in sales of aeronautics by 17.3% and those of textiles and leather by 5.5%, due to the decline in sales of ready-made clothing by 7.1% and shoes (19.5%).

On the other hand, exports from the agriculture and agro-food sector recorded almost stability at the end of March (+ 0.6%). This development is due to the increase in sales of agriculture, forestry and hunting of 2.6%, attenuated by the drop in sales of the food industry (1.9%).
