An environmental code in preparation

The Minister of Energy, Mines and the Environment, Aziz Rabbah, announced Monday in Rabat that the ministry is preparing an environment code which brings together all the texts related to this area.

In response to a question in the House of Representatives on “the environment and the impact of the implementation of the national strategy for sustainable development (SNDD)”, Aziz Rabbah indicated that the large number of projects related to the environment which concern multiple sectors and sometimes overlap, prompted the ministry to work on the draft environmental code, which “is in its final stages”.

This code will be a reference bringing together all the texts: laws, decrees, decisions or administrative procedures, noted the minister. All financial means have been deployed to prepare this code, he said, noting that the draft code will be submitted to the General Secretariat of the Government in a few weeks.

Morocco is one of the first countries in the world to have followed the path of sustainable development and to adopt the sustainable development goals, he said.

In this regard, he referred to various programs launched by the Kingdom, including the national program for household waste, the national program for liquid sanitation and wastewater treatment, the national program for the prevention of industrial pollution, the national program of air and the national climate plan. According to the minister, the legal arsenal relating to the environment and environmental control have also been strengthened, in addition to other actions related to surveillance at the national level and at the level of all regions of the Kingdom.

In order to implement the SNDD, 28 sectoral sustainable development plans and an exemplary pact of the administration were developed and established at the territorial level, added Aziz Rabbah, noting that the rate of progress of the sectoral plans has increased. reached 68%, while that of the administration’s exemplary pact rose to 38%.

The reports published periodically by international organizations salute the projects carried out by Morocco in the fields of renewable energies, the environment, sustainable development, the fight against pollution and other important projects, as well as the path taken by the Kingdom. under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, he said, believing that the next decade will see a major transformation in this area.
