Traffic accidents: 19 dead and 1,925 injured in urban areas last week
Rabat – Nineteen people were killed and 1,925 others injured, including 56 seriously, in several traffic accidents in urban areas during the week from February 22 to 28.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said Tuesday in a press release that these accidents are mainly due to the inadvertence of drivers, non-compliance with priority, excessive speed, inadvertence pedestrians, lack of control of vehicles, change of direction without the use of a signal, unauthorized change of direction, failure to respect the stop sign, traffic in the left lane, drunk driving , traffic in the prohibited direction and defective overtaking.
Regarding the control and repression of traffic offenses, the press release states that the security services recorded 41,905 tickets and established 9,940 reports submitted to the prosecution, while 31,965 transaction fines were collected.
The sums collected reached 6,675,925 dirhams, said the DGSN, noting the municipal impoundment of 3,766 vehicles, the seizure of 6,064 documents and the withdrawal from circulation of 110 vehicles.
