Maroc Telecom provided, on Wednesday, explanations on the reasons for the navigation disruptions observed recently. The Operator thus indicates that as part of the regular maintenance of the network infrastructures, a voluntary cut of the Atlas Offshore submarine cable, connecting Asilah to Marseille, took place last Friday for a return to service on the 25th current.
A Maroc Telecom press release specifies in this regard that “as part of the regular maintenance of network infrastructures, a voluntary cut of the Atlas Offshore submarine cable, connecting Asilah to Marseille, took place on Friday 19/02/2021 for a return to service scheduled for 25/02/2021 ”.
This operation, it is stressed, aims to anticipate problems of quality of service and improvement of performance, and during this operation, all international traffic passing through said cable was switched to the Loukkos submarine cable connecting Asilah in Seville.
Noting that some intermittent quality of service disruptions have been observed, in particular the slowness of browsing on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, the operator apologizes for the inconvenience caused and assures to have restored the situation last Monday evening and this good before the Atlas Offshore submarine cable is put back into service.
