The Moroccan selection of the under-20s was placed in Group C of the final phase of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) in the category, scheduled for next February in Mauritania.
Morocco will have to do battle with Ghana, Tanzania and The Gambia, according to the draw made on Monday in Yaoundé, on the sidelines of the final phase of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) for local players, which is held in Cameroon.
The final phase of the Under-20 CAN will be held from February 14 to March 4, in the cities of Nouakchott and Nouadhibou.
During their first meeting, the Lion Cubs of the Atlas will cross swords with Gambia, on February 16, before facing Ghana, on the 19 of the same month. They will then meet with Tanzania on February 22 in Nouakchott. All national team matches will be played at 8:00 p.m. (GMT + 1).
The national team qualified for the CAN finals at the end of the North African Football Union tournament, recently organized in Tunisia, where they beat Algeria and drew against Tunisia and Libya.
This is the first time that the U20 Africa Cup of Nations has been extended to 12 teams instead of the eight in previous tournaments. Here is also the composition of the three groups: Group A: Mauritania, Cameroon, Uganda, Mozambique Group B: Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Namibia, Central African Republic
