The harvest and marketing of shellfish from the Douira-Sidi R’bat shellfish farming area under the maritime district of Agadir were prohibited following bacteriological contamination in these shellfish at levels exceeding the accepted standards, indicates Monday a press release from the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests.

“The results of analyzes carried out by the National Institute for Halieutic Research (INRH) in this area show bacteriological contamination in these shellfish at levels exceeding the accepted standards”, adds the same source, specifying that this ban will remain in force. until total purification of the medium.

As a result, consumers are recommended to source only packaged products, bearing health identification labels and marketed in authorized points of sale (official markets), the statement continued, notifying that shellfish hawked or sold in bulk do not present any guarantee of safety and constitute a danger to public health.
