Handball World Cup (Egypt 2021): Morocco loses against Portugal (20-33)
Cairo – The national handball Seven (men) lost by 20 to 33 against Portugal, Saturday evening in Cairo, during the second day of the World Handball Championship (Group F) organized in Egypt.
With this second consecutive victory, the Portuguese team pocketed its qualifying ticket for the main round, while the chances of the national team to qualify for the next round are reduced after this second defeat.
The Atlas Lions finished the first half with a tie score (12 to 12). With the start of the second half, the concentration of the national Seven dropped dramatically as the Portuguese side managed to widen the gap by taking advantage of opportunities missed by the national team.
Domestic players did not take advantage of the exceptional performance of national team goalkeeper Yassin El-Idrissi, who brilliantly repelled numerous direct free kicks and shots.
The Portuguese national team had signed a victory in their first confrontation against their Icelandic counterpart (25-23), while the Moroccan selection had suffered a first defeat against the Algerian team (23-24).
The 32 qualified teams are divided into eight groups of four teams. The top three teams in their respective preliminary round groups will advance to the main round.
