A large-scale SARS-COv-2 screening campaign in schools was launched in 6 regions of Morocco on Friday January 8. This operation, carried out at the request of the Ministry of Health and in close collaboration with the Ministry of National Education, targets 30,000 middle and high school students spread over the regions of Casablanca-Settat, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Tanger-Tétouan Al Hoceima , Marrakech-Safi and Souss Massa.
In a circular dated January 7 addressed to the regional directors of health of the aforementioned regions, the Ministry of Health indicates that this screening operation takes place following the appearance of new variants of the said virus. Its objective is to estimate the level of circulation of the virus in the population under the age of 18 and to genetically characterize the circulating variants, specifies the same source.
Given the importance of this operation, the department of Khalid Ait Taleb has asked the regional health directors to “ collect and send samples to designated laboratories, in accordance with procedures detailing the technical, operational and ethical aspects which will be communicated to it by the Epidemiology and Disease Control Department ”.
In details, 10,000 middle and high school students will be screened in the Casablanca-Settat region, while in Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Tanger-Tétouan Al Hoceima, Marrakech-Safi and Souss Massa, 4,000 students will be tested per region, for a total from 18,000. Thus, and in the 6 regions mentioned, 28,000 middle and high school students will be screened.
More than 3,500 students screened in the RSK region
Joined by Hespress Fr, Mohamed Aderdour, director of the Regional Academy of Education and Training (AREF) of the region of Rabat-salé-Kénitra, confided that the 4,000 tests granted to his region were distributed over the seven provincial directorates with a sample of 100 tests for the benefit of French missions in Morocco, in particular the Descartes and André Malraux high school (50 tests each).
” The goal being to seek among middle and high school students, new variants of the coronavirus, in particular the British strain which is characterized by its rapid spread among young people“, Says Aderdour, noting that there was a serious implication in this operation on behalf of the screened students, the executives of the teaching, but also the teams of the ministry of health, and the local and provincial authorities.
The results of this screening operation, which started on Friday January 8 and ended Wednesday January 13 in the region of Rabat, will be unveiled in 24 hours to 48 hours precisely, Mohamed Aderdour, or at the latest, Friday January 15.
” We are rather reassured about the state of health of our students, but we will be more so through this screening operation carried out by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education.” , he added.
The director of the AREF of RSK, informs that since the launch of this operation, and to date, more than 3,500 pupils have been screened in the region of RSK. or 96% of the total required tests (4,000). The last province in the AREF list of Rabat is Témara where the authorities of the Ministry of Health proceeded to screen students on Wednesday.
