They were allegedly assaulted for not speaking French. Brother Muhammad Abu Eid and his sister Heba, claimed to have been insulted and beaten on their way home. The attack is said to have started with insults on a bus. “The sister does not have a good command of French. There is a discussion that will begin.” The attackers reportedly addressed words like “Are we in France? So we speak French”, reports 20 minutes, quoting the prosecutor of Angers, Eric Bouillard.
While the two brothers got off the bus headed for a university residence at a friend’s house, “they will be followed and there will be an assault in front of the university residence”, details the magistrate. The young man, like his sister, was punched in the face by the attackers who fled.
The attackers are still wanted, the results of the video surveillance are still awaited, because, worries the prosecutor, “there are things which will be to take again with the victims, like the shift of the language”. “We can find ourselves in a racist attack, not that we doubt it, but that deserves to be verified” he specified.
As a reminder, the young Muhammad Abu Eid had recounted their attack on Facebook. He introduced himself as an Arabic language assistant and French government scholarship holder.
