Covid-19: UK raises alert level in London and other cities

The British government raised, on Friday, the level of alert in London and several other areas of England in the face of the exponential spread of the new coronavirus.

The British Minister for Health, Matt Hancock, who was speaking to the deputies, thus warned that “ have illusions about the danger posed by this virus. The coronavirus is deadly and it is now spreading exponentially in the UK ”.

After stressing the need ” take action to prevent more hospitalizations, more deaths and more economic damage“, He said the British capital and seven other regions were climbing a notch to the“ high ”level, which implies new restrictions.

These are, he said, London, Essex, Elmbridge, Barrow in Furness, York, North East Derbyshire, Chesterfield and Erewash.

This level implies that members of different households, regardless of their number, no longer have the right to meet indoors, whether at home or inside pubs or restaurants. It is still allowed to meet but outside only and in groups of up to six people, children included. Pubs and restaurants in England are already required to close at 10 p.m.
