Before the UN GA, Iraq welcomes the appeal of Al-Quds launched by HM the King and Pope Francis
United Nations (New York) – Iraq hailed aloud to the United Nations the appeal of Al-Quds signed by HM King Mohammed VI and His Holiness Pope Francis on March 30, 2019 in Rabat, to preserve and promote the specific multi-religious character, the spiritual dimension and the particular identity of the Holy City of Al-Quds Acharif.
“Iraq welcomes the initiative of the appeal of Al-Quds launched by King Mohammed VI and His Holiness Pope Francis to highlight the place of Al-Quds Acharif as a place of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect for heritage human, “Iraq’s representative told the UN General Assembly’s Fourth Committee at its meeting on Friday.
“Al-Quds unites and does not divide”, insisted the Iraqi diplomat, while stressing the need to work together so that the Holy City “remains a symbol of peace”.
In this regard, he reiterated Iraq’s rejection of all the violations committed by the Israeli occupation authorities in the holy places of Islam and Christianity in Al-Quds Acharif, in particular the attempts to alter the historical and legal status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and divide it temporally and spatially.
